The Wave

Langer Law, P.A. presents The Wave.

Stephanie has often said that the school district is like a cruise ship. It is very slow to move and change direction. Individually we do not make much of an impact on the cruise ship’s movement, but when we work together we can make waves that will move the ship. The Wave is a project to empower families to stand up and make waves. It includes coaching for families, coaching for advocates, educational materials and a podcast called The Wave.  Public education in the state of Florida (and across the country) is at an inflection point.

We will either come together to save our public schools or public school will be lost for generations to come. Langer Law, P.A. firmly believes that education remains the great equalizer and should be available to everyone no matter their race, ethnicity, economical or disability status. Public school is the only place that everyone is entitled to a free and appropriate education. Public school is often the only option for many families. The public school system, however, is stretched to near breaking and something needs to change as it will not survive in its current state.

The system has lost sight of the fact that we are educating children. In our efforts to keep children safe, we have forgotten that they are in school to make mistakes and learn and grown and thrive so that they can become productive members of our community. Every child should be in public school. The quality of the public school should not be dependent upon your zip code and children with disabilities should not be moved out of their neighborhoods in order to attend public school. Too many kids with disabilities are being homeschooled.

This is not a statement of judgment. For the first time ever, Langer Law, P.A. has begun to recommend home schooling for some families. Our children are often less safe in public school than they were just a few years ago. This can and must end. We need to make waves.
